Having trouble or have an idea? The answers below cover the most common questions. If yours isn't here, write to us — we read every message.

Getting a good scan

Lay the page flat, use even light without strong shadows, and hold the phone straight above it. The document camera finds the edges; check that the whole page, including the top and bottom staff, is inside the frame.

Clean printed or engraved music works best. Copies of copies, very small print and curved book pages are harder. Handwritten music is not supported.

If you have the music as a PDF, open the PDF instead of photographing a screen or a printout.

Measures marked in orange

Orange means the recogniser wasn't sure. Tap the measure to see your photo of it next to the notes, then fix pitch, accidentals or note values with the buttons. Every change can be undone.

"No music found" or "Handwriting not supported"

Cantora checks each page before recognising it. A page that isn't recognised as printed music, or can't be read, is not counted against your page limit. Try a sharper photo, or crop out anything that isn't the score.

Choir mode isn't available

Choir mode needs the voices to be recognisable: separate soprano, alto, tenor and bass parts, or a classic two-staff choir score. Piano and instrumental scores play normally without it.

Page limit

The free version includes 5 scanned pages every 30 days; Pro includes up to 600. The app shows how many pages you have left. Pieces you already scanned stay in your library and play without using pages.

Scanning says it is offline or unavailable

Recognition runs on our server, so scanning needs an internet connection. If the service is temporarily paused, the app says so; try again later. Your library and playback keep working offline.

Restore my purchase

Open the Pro screen in the app and tap Restore. Pro unlocks on every device signed in with the same Apple Account.

Cancel or change the subscription

Settings › [your name] › Subscriptions › Cantora on your iPhone or iPad, or Settings › Manage subscription in the app. Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for; your pieces are not deleted.

My library on another device

With iCloud on, your library syncs between your iPhone and iPad signed in with the same Apple Account. Syncing can take a moment after a new scan.

Change the app language

Cantora is available in English, German and Turkish. Choose one in Settings › Language; the app switches instantly.

Feedback and complaints

Found a bug, a page it read badly, or something you didn’t like? Tell us. Include your app version (Settings › About) and device model so we can reproduce it. If a page photo helps, attach it — it’s only used to look into your report.
